Why use the SOHCAHTOA in Trigonometry?

The “SOHCAHTOA” is one of the mnemonic which is one most interesting thing to remember about all the trigonometric ratios. In the word “SOHCAHTOA”  all the three trigonometric ratios, Sin, Cos and Tan are hidden. The SOH stands Sin and it is opposite over Hypotenuse, here the S for “Sin”, O for the Opposite, and the H for the Hypotenuse.  The CAH stands for CAH and it is adjacent over Hypotenuse, here the C for “Cos”, A for the adjacent, and the H for the Hypotenuse.  The TOA stands for the Tan and it is opposite over adjacent, here the T for “Tan”, O for the Opposite, and the A for the Adjacent sides.

You can use the sohcahtoa calculator by calculator-online.net to find all the trigonometric ratios and their relation. So  you only have to remember the soh cah toa word and that all to remember all the measurements.

What is Sohcahtoa?

You can learn all the six trigonometric ratios by the Sohcahtoa mnemonic and the ratios are:

  • SOH (Sin(θ))= Opposite side/Hypotenuse
  • CAH (Cos(θ)) = Adjacent side/Hypotenuse
  • TOA (Tan(θ))= Opposite side/Adjacent side

A students  able to learn the basic trigonometric ratios  it is possible to learn the  all the six ratios Cosec θ, Sec θ and  Cot θ

Cosec θ = 1/Sin(θ)=Sin-1θ = Hypotenuse/ Opposite

Sec θ  = 1/Cos(θ)=Cos-1θ =  Hypotenuse/Adjacent

Cot θ = 1/tan(θ)= Tan-1 θ =   Adjacent/Opposite

trignometry

The trigonometry calculator makes it possible to find all the slides and the missing angles in a right angle triangle.

Adjacent side:

It is  the side along the angle of the right angle triangle and you also call it the base of the triangle. The AB is the adjacent side of the triangle in the figure above and it is quite adjacent to the angle of the triangle. The Sohcahtoa Calculator enables a user to find any side or the missing angle of the right angle triangle.

Opposite side:

It is the side opposite to the angle of the right angle triangle. BC is the opposite side of the triangle in the figure above. The opposite side of the triangle is also known to be as  the perpendicular of the right angle triangle.

Hypotenuse:

It is the side along the angle of the right angle triangle and it is the largest side of the triangle and it is larger then both the perpendicular and base of the right angle triangle. the AC is the Hypotenuse of the triangle in the figure above.

Use the Sohcahtoa Calculator to determine the adjacent side, Opposite side and the Hypotenuse of a right angle triangle.

Conclusion:

The  Sohcahtoa Calculator can compute the missing side and all the angles of the triangle. It is just too easy to learn all the trigonometric ratios by learning the mnemonic Sohcahtoa. You can teach the students trigonometry easily when they are able to remember all the trigonometric ratios. Most of the time you may forget what is the relationship in the trigonometric ratios.
